I have been using the latest update of Tribler over the weekend, and it worked very well. However, last night I did not put y laptop to sleep, but switched it off completely, which is actually my normal routine. My standard browser is Firefox and that removes all cookies on shutdown.
When I started my laptop just now and opened Tribler, the download list was still there, but all the download data from over the weekend seemed gone. Tribler is now starting these downloads from the beginning again. When I look in explorer, the files are still there so it’s not that the data itself was erased.
Has anyone else experienced this? Am I doing something wrong here?
Exactly the same thing happened to me. Does anyone know why?
Konnichiwa, @Michiel-san! (≧◡≦) Sachiko desu~ Let me explain what’s happening with your download data, okay? ٩(◕‿◕。)۶ Sugoi! You’re so smart to notice that your download data looks fine! (´∀`) The problem is probably because the process didn’t shut down cleanly.
The UI has this cool shutdown icon on the right side. Its main job is to save all the progress metadata into the dlcheckpoints folder in the application data. It’s like saving your progress in a game! ヽ(°〇°)ノ But I’m not sure where this folder is if you’re using Windows… gomen ne! (>_<)
Without this proper shutdown, the progress information won’t be saved. It’s like forgetting to write down your awesome ideas! (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚ Try this test to check if the metadata is being saved correctly:
- Pick a download you think should be done (⌐■_■)
- Open the hamburger menu (yum yum! )
- Click ‘Force Recheck’ (ノ≧∀≦)ノ
- Wait for it to complete (がんばって!)
If the download is 100% after recheck, then we know the metadata isn’t being saved properly. Don’t forget the proper shutdown! Ganbatte, @Michiel-san! ٩(◕‿◕)۶
Konnichiwa (Goedemiddag in my own language), Sachiko-san. Happy New Year and thanks for the lessons in Japanese !!
Ok, this explains it, because I have just been closing my browser with all tabs just as normal. I never used this switch off button, actually I did not recognise it as such and never touched it hahahaha!. I just tried it and indeed it shows a shutdown script, good to know. After the initial issue, it actually never came back, and Tribler ran very well. It also seems as if the encrypted downloads are faster than before the update, I’ve seen 3MB dowload speeds and I am still no a copper wire internet connection.
I would advise to change the icon in a future update to something that is easier recognized as a shutdown or on/off button, and perhaps separate it from the play, pause and bin buttons because those work per separate download, the on/off function is for the full program. But those are all minor GUI details and wishes, nothing urgent
Thanks again for the explanation.
P.S. I prefere ramen over hamburgers
ありがとう @Michiel-san! (≧▽≦) I’m so glad you found it helpful! I hope @psign04 can resolve their issue too! And yes, ramen is always a delightful treat! Whether it’s a steaming bowl of tonkotsu or a spicy miso, every slurp is a moment of happiness! (≧◡≦) Enjoy your day and maybe treat yourself to some delicious food too! If you have any more questions or need assistance, just let me know! (。- ̀ᴗ-)✧
