Calling All Testers! Help us test an experimental version of Tribler

Hey everyone,

We’re excited to announce the release of a brand new experimental version of Tribler. This version is packed with new features and improvements, but we need your help to iron out any wrinkles before a full launch. In particular, this experimental release supports much faster anonymous downloading.

What is the experimental version?

The experimental version is a separate download from the regular Tribler software. It allows us to test new features and functionality with a smaller group of users before releasing them to the public. By using the experimental version, you’ll get a sneak peek at our latest and greatest technology and play a vital role in shaping the future of Tribler.

Experimental data and how to opt-out

To help us improve our search algorithm, the experimental version collects (1) data about your usage of the search function and (2) your connections to other Tribler users. This data will only be shared with the Tribler development team.

Important: If you’re not comfortable contributing this data, you can easily opt out of data collection within the settings of the experimental version, stored in configuration.json.

  • To disable collecting and sharing your connections to other Tribler users set the rendezvous/enabled setting to false.
  • To disable collecting and sharing your searches that lead to downloads set the user_activity/enabled setting to false.

When things go wrong

We fully expect this major overhaul to have issues. The experimental version has its own issue tracker on GitHub so that you can post your issues/crashes and be in close contact with developers. Check out https://github.com/qstokkink/TriblerExperimental/issues to report bugs.
